Whale Extravaganza Tshirt Idea #1

As an extension of my efforts to help our adorable cetacean friends, I've created a line of merchandise (tshirts, mugs, iphone cases, etc.) all hand-sketched by me, featuring 'Moby the Whale' and friends such as 'Ned the Narwhal'. All proceeds go towards whale conservation and to help us put on more fun fundraisers like this past summer's Whale Extravaganza: A Whale of a Drag Show. The tshirt on it's own is very cute and is available in a variety of sizes in both men's and women's styles. However, if you're like me and can't leave it alone, it can be fun to cut it up into a variety of different shirt shapes.

Tshirt Idea #1: Tie-Front Tank

Here I've taken a men's tshirt and cut it up into a tie-front tank. It's actually pretty simple and requires no sewing whatsoever. All you need is a shirt and a pair of fabric or kitchen scissors. Here's how I did it:

STEP 1
Cut off the sleeves.

STEP 2
Cut your neckline. I cut mine lower in front and higher in the back.

STEP 3
Flip your shirt over and cut the back of the shirt straight across at your hips or waist depending on how short you want it.

STEP 4
Cut up the middle of the shirt to the new back, then cut up diagonally on either side to make two triangles.

STEP 5
Flip over and tie the points together. You're done!

I cut mine pretty short to wear with high-waisted bottoms, but if you prefer to wear it as a regular tank just make sure you cut it to your hips in the back. Also, these shirts do stretch a bit, so it's best if it starts out a little bit tight.

Thanks for reading and stay-tuned for more fun shirt ideas in the future! :)
